MariaElizeteMaria Elizete Kunkel is professor at the Science and Technology Institute of the Federal University of São Paulo UNIFESP, Brazil. Lecturer and researcher in Biomechanics in the Biomedical Engineering Dept. Has a degree in Physics, specializing in Scientific Journalism, Masters in Bioengineering from the University of Sao Paulo USP and PhD in Biomechanics, in 2012, from the Medical School of Ulm University, Germany. She was for 4 years researcher at the Medical Robotics Institute in Braunschweig, Germany. Currently coordinates the Biomechanics and Forensic Group at UNIFESP, conducting research in Assistive Technology. Is on the Post-Graduate Program in Biomedical Engineering at the Federal University of ABC. Coordinates the Mao3D Social Program, which rehabilitates amputees of upper limbs with prostheses made by Additive Manufacturing in partnership with the Lucy Montoro Rehabilitation Center of Sao Paulo, Brazil.

AnaPaulaAna Paula Dias Cano is Bachelor of Science and Technology, Federal University of São Paulo (Unifesp) in Brazil and 4. year student of Biomedical Engineering at the same university. She is designer of prostheses and 3D printing Manager of the Social Program Mao3D of Unifesp. She develops a research project about hand prosthesis for children using modeling tools, 3D reconstruction and additive manufacturing.

ThabataThabata Alcântra F. Ganga is Bachelor of Science and Technology, Federal University of São Paulo (Unifesp) in Brazil and 4. year student of Biomedical Engineering at the same university. She is designer of prostheses and 3D printing Manager of the Social Program Mao3D of Unifesp. She develops a research project about FEM analysis of a myoelectrical upper limb prosthesis produced by additive manufacturing

 

TeleHealth systems in the management of cardiovascular diseases (CVD)

RatkoRatko Magjarević received his Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering in 1994 from the University of Zagreb, Faculty of Electrical Engineering. After his appointment in industry at the Institute of Electrical Engineering “Koncar,“ he joined the Electronic Measurement and Biomedical Engineering Group at the University of Zagreb Faculty of Electrical Engineering and Computing. He is full professor teaching several courses in Electronic Instrumentation and Biomedical Engineering at undergraduate, graduate and at postgraduate studies. His scientific and professional interest is in fields of electronic and biomedical instrumentation and health informatics, in particular in cardiac potentials analysis and pacing, in research of new methods for drug delivery based on electropermeabilisation and recently in research of personalised intelligent mobile health systems. He is author or co-author of numerous journal and conference papers, several textbooks and book chapters. R. Magjarevic is the Vice-President of the International Union for Physical and Engineering Sciences in Medicine (IUPESM) and Immediate Past-President of the International Federation for Medical and Biological Engineering (IFMBE).

CarstenDr. Carsten Oliver Schirra is holding a PhD in Biomedical Engineering from King’s College London. His career has taken him to the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology, Zurich, and Washington University in St. Louis Medical School. As scientist at Philips Research, he worked at laboratories in Germany and the USA. His resesearch activities include clinical research at St. Thomas’ and Guys’ Hospital London, University Hospital Zurich, and Washington University in St. Louis Medical School. As head of the recently founded Philips Research hub in Brazil, he oversees research projects focusing on locally relevant topics in Healthcare and well-being. Current focus are cloud-based solutions for hospital big data analytics, natural language processing and workflow orchestration, and telehealth propositions. Carsten is also leading academic and clinical research partnerships betweeen Philips Research and Brazilian insitutions, to investigate disruptive propostiions in HealthTech.

Vicente TraverVicente Traver - MSC (1998) and Ph.D. (2004) in Telecommunications Engineering by Universidad Politécnica de Valencia IEEE- EMBS member. Associate Profesor of Biomedical Engineering at the Universidad Politécnica de Valencia. General Manager of the Innovative Technologies for Health & Wellbeing (SABIEN) group at the ITACA Institute. Member of the Academic Board for the interuniversity Master on Biomedical Engineering at Valencia. Coordinator of the cluster Healthy Living, which combines six different R&D university groups working in the field from different approaches. Since 1998, his research focus is telemedicine, e-health and e-inclusion, especially on the provision of home health care services through ICT and the concepts of the patient empowerment and the citizen as health co-producer. He has participated in more than 30 EU funded projects (from IV till Horizon 2020), Spanish funded projects and taken part in multiple research agreements with companies, dealing most of them with health care and social services making use of ICT. He has published more than 100 publications in national and international journals and has participated in several seminars and conferences as invited speaker.  Member of several international scientific congress committees. Conference cochair of the IEEE Biomedical Health Informatics 2014. Member of the Editorial Board of International Journal of Distributed Sensor Networks. Associate member of the IEEE EMBS - Wearable Biomedical Sensors and Systems (WBSS) Committee. Cofounder of 2 SME IT health related companies. Paulo de CarvalhoPaulo de Carvalho received his PhD in Informatics Engineering in 2002 from the University of Coimbra, where is an Associate Professor. His main research interests are adaptive computational techniques with application to bio-signals, pattern recognition, modelling and Clinical Informatics. His publications include several book chapters and over 150 papers in refereed international journals and conferences. He was the co-founder of the Clinical Informatics research track at CISUC. He participated in international FP6, FP7 and H2020 research projects such as MyHeart (IST-2002-507816), HeartCycle (FP7 – 216695), HeartWays (FP7-315659), Welcome (FP7-611223) and Link (H2020 - 692023). He has experience in leading research teams in national as well as in international research projects, since 2002. Namely, he was/is the project coordinator of iCIS (CENTRO-07-0224-FEDER-002003), Link (H2020-692023), HeartSafe (PTDC EEI-PRO 2857 2012), CBASED (POSI/SRI/36564/1999), SoundForLife (PTDC-EIA-68620-2006) and also served as the coordinator of the Univ. Coimbra’s participation in HeartCycle(FP7 – 216695) and HeartWays(FP7-315659). He served as concept champion and has the coordinator for the intelligent algorithms in in the MyHeart project. He also served has vice-president of the Instituto de Investigação Interdisciplinar of the University of Coimbra. He was the director of the Departmento of the Informatics Engineering Department of the University of Coimbra between 2011 and 2013. He is a member of the IFMBE Working Group on Clinical Informatics He regularly acts has expert evaluator and reviewer for European Commission and national organizations.

César TeixeiraCésar Teixeira is an assistant professor at DEI-FCTUC, University of Coimbra, Portugal. He has a graduation (2003) in Systems and Computation Engineering and a PhD (2008) in Electronics Engineering and Informatics both from the University of the Algarve, Portugal. His expertise is on bio-signal processing, classification and modelling. More precisely on EEG-based epileptic seizure prediction and anaesthesia monitoring; and ultrasound-based non-invasive temperature estimation and image improvement. His publication record includes over 100 papers in refereed national and international journals and conferences. He participated in several national (HeartSafe(PTDC EEI-PRO 2857 2012), and iCIS (CENTRO-07-0224-FEDER-002003)) and international projects (EPILEPSIAE (FP7-ICT-2007- 211713), Welcome(FP7-611223), and Link (H2020-692023)).

JurandirNadalJurandir Nadal is Full Professor of the Biomedical Engineering Program, and Lecturer of the Physical Education Program, both at Universidade Federal do Rio de Janeiro. He has a graduate degree in Electrical Engineering from Pontifícia Universidade Católica do Rio de Janeiro (1979), MSc (1981) and DSc (1991) in Biomedical Engineering from Universidade Federal do Rio de Janeiro. He was President of the Brazilian Society of Biomedical Engineering (2006-2008), Scientific chairman of the World Congress on Medical Physics and Biomedical Engineering (1994), Editor in-chief of the Brazilian Journal for Biomedical Engineering (1994-2006), and Head of Department (1995-1997; 2010-2014). He has experience in Biomedical Engineering, acting on biomedical signal processing with emphasis on quantitative electrocardiology (risk stratification of sudden death) and biomechanics (posture control, gait analysis, electromyography and muscle fatigue).

Antonio Luiz Pinho RibeiroAntonio Luiz Pinho Ribeiro is Full Professor of Internal Medicine, Associate Editor of BMJ Heart and Head of the Innovation and Research Department of the University Hospital at the Federal University of Minas Gerais, in Brazil, where he was the Director-General from 2010 to 2014. He was responsible for the establishment of the centralized EKG system in the State of Minas Gerais, a project that was awarded by 6 national and 1 international prizes from 2008 to 2013. His research fields include Chagas disease and myocardiopathies, arrhythmias and cardiac devices, electrocardiology and non-invasive cardiovascular methods, biomarkers in cardiovascular diseases, telecardiology and outcome research in cardiology. He has published more than 200 papers, including in important journals, as The Lancet, BMJ, Circulation, JACC and Stroke. During the last five years, he conducted as PI or Co-PI several major studies, with a total budget over 10 million dollars.

Anna BianchiAnna M. Bianchi is full professor in Biomedical Engineering at the Department of Electronics, Information and Bioengineering of the Politecnico di Milano. She received the Laurea in Electronic Engineering from the same University. In the period 1987-2000 she was research assistant in the Lab. of Biomedical Engineering of the IRCCS S.Raffaele Hospital in Milano; in 2001 joined the Department of Biomedical Engineering of the Politecnico di Milano.  Her teaching activities are in the field of Biomedical Signal Processing (Bachelor degree) and Medical Informatics (Master degree). She is among the Lecturers of the PhD program in Bioengineering and since 2004 she is in the board of the same PhD program. She is author of more than 100 papers published on peer reviewed international journals (h-index = 26). She collaborated in many EU (MyHeart, HeartCycle, Neuropt) research projects and was Unit coordinator in the EU project Psyche (FP7), Pickfiler (FP7), and in now Unit coordinator of the EU project LINK (H2020). She is member of the IEEE-Engineering in Medicine and Biology Society, and member of the technical committees on Cardiopulmonary Systems and on Neuroengineering. She is fellow of EAMBES (European Alliance for Medical and Biological Engineering).

Marco VieiraMarco Vieira is an Associate Professor at the University of Coimbra (UC) and is the Director of the Center for Informatics and Systems of the University of Coimbra (CISUC). Marco’s research focuses mainly in the area of dependable and secure computing, namely in benchmarking and experimental assessment of security and dependability attributes. His research interests also include failure prediction, evaluation and improvement of software robustness, fault injection, database systems and software development processes. He is the coordinator of the H2020 European project EUBrasilCloudFORUM (grant agreement No 689495).
